Valerie's Camp Reflection

I SURVIVED once again! this year's annual training camp left me with countless sleepless nights. the thought that huixin would be going too really put me on tenterhooks. i remember the night before the camp, i was praying and praying to God to bless me with all the mental and physical strength, bless me with wisdom so that i know when to do the right things at the right time etc. i guess He answered all my prayers.

DAY 1.
let me talk about the events that happened in sch first. about a handful of guides came late and the seniors were already counting our punishments. it really got me super worried. but nevertheless, nervousness was cast aside as much as possible. we loaded the stuffs up the bus and set off. nafeeshah said it was a journey to our doomsday. on the way, we cheered and sang. it was quite quiet though. and then, when we passed by the cemetery, the sec2s in my patrol were horrendously freaked out. haha. finally, we reached our "doomsite". after carrying the stuffs down, we started to pitch tents. tent-pitching was a very big problem for most of our patrols. VP, Venturaz and my patrol, Believeables encountered difficulties bcos after we mallot in our pegs, seniors said our tents were too close. so we shifted and shifted. in the end, Venturaz and Believeables' tents were sagging bcos we shited too much and the ropes cannot be tighten further. this is one thing that the sec2s juniors should look for next year! must take at least 15 pacing first!! :) we took about 4 hours to pitch the tents. which was super slow, and i thought that we could do much faster. we had SUPERB lunch! then carried on with gadget making. i was quite disappointed in my gadget making. esp the baggage rack. want to apologise to my members for contradicting them. im really sorry. after which, we played games in the heavy rain. quite fun when we were asked to sit on each other's leg. everyone was not trustful of each other so we didnt dare to put all our weight down in the first place. in my opinion, going to camp in such a ulu place, everyone must trust one another to do things well. so when huixin and lirong mdm started to knock us over, they couldnt do it! cos all of us trusted one another and sat down on each other's thigh. though we were wet, it was worth it! *-fastforward-* had maggi mee as dinner! not bad! but, couldnt finish. so gave my share to chunling! after which we learnt the "everybody dance now" cheer from weiching! haha, super fun. and we got a new after cheer: YES! after which, we went for the night walk. YAY! this year's walk was so much more fun! we walked the long long way! we walked in patrols for the first part. huiying mdm was behind our patrol and she kept talking and talking non-stop! haha. the solo walk back was fun fun fun! zhiling pulled a trick on us! cant believe i fell for it! :( had authentic green bean SOUP this year! there was SOUP!! :) not bad. we retreated into our tents after washing up. thankfully, we did not wake up in the wee hours of the morning to do patrolling nor punishment. we only were woken up at 520am to do punishment! we also did not roll in the grass this time. kind of wanted a "grass" bath though, since i'm already so smelly and dirty.

DAY 2:
had lots of fun today! :) we played the water bottle hunting game early in the morning. seniors were like putting water bombs in our paths. had outdoor cooking later on. waa. the fire was one hard thing. blow and blow. made me cry so much. million thanks to mrs ong and syamira for helping my patrol with the fire. our pizza, potato and chicken was GREAT! one very memorable thing that happened was in the afternoon, while playing the "battle royale" thingy, a very huge lightning followed by thunder striked. nafeeshah, yiteng and i were super scared by it! we went into the lodge and ate out outdoor cooking chicken! YAY! our chicken was named the "chicken rice" chicken. my patrol members can all be hawkers alr. :) didn eat the chicken cos i had no appetite. ate watermelon only. the thunders made nafeeshah and i huddle together. it was so loud! after which we played indoor games and my patrol had to cook. we cut like tons and tons of chicken meat. im so sick of touching chicken now. then, when i helped to cut the carrot, i cut my finger. the blood kept oozing out. it was a very fainting sight.. and it hurts. after dinner, i started to feel sick and unwell. sadly, i did not take part in the nightgame and the campfire! :( really wanted to play the nightgame. heard it was quite scary but fun! :( jingqiu, who alr fell sick on the first night joined me in the lodge to rest. we kind of annoyed mrs ong with our non-stop talking! :) i finally fell asleep while jingqiu carried on...

DAY 3:
the seniors alarm ringing tone were wonderful! i think i heard about 4-5 alarms. haha. had mild headache that morning, and joined the company for breakfast. did patrol duties and took down the gadgets. i felt so useless bcos i could not stay under the sun and help my patrol members to dry the poles. we also couldnt strike the tents bcos the grass was still wet. BELIEVEABLES WON THE BEST CHEER PATROL! YAY! :) million thanks to my patrol members: Chun ling, jiahui, yunhui, syafiqah, junying and adlyn. you girls did well! i apologise for my temper and impatience! really regretted bcos i could not take the same bus as my fellow sec3s. jingqiu and i joined the sec2s on the first bus. in the end, jingqiu and i stayed back to wait for the sec3s arrival. we took pictures together and it was home sweet home!

lastly, i want to say that this camp was a test of mental strength more then physical strength. if i were to go to camp next year again, i really hope and wish that i would not fall sick again for the 3D2N! overall, it was a wonderful camp that bonded everyone together. :) i enjoyed this camp!

Dear Valerie,
Thank you for your constructive feedback and detailed reflection. I'm glad you truly enjoyed the camp and brought back with you an unique experience and fond memories. wel. after reading your entry, i guess the first thought was, i guess i'm losing touch with you girls. somehow, i dont want to be just a figure that you girls are afraid of. yes, i'm there to instill discipline which i dont think any of your seniors nor guiders can do that.(they are too kind.) but on the other side, i want you girls to know that you can approach me should you need help, and like what i always say, i will be nice if you are nice to me (us). and i certainly think that you have been good. we can always have a few jokes here and there. i could also see a few suggestions for improvements. do note it down and make sure it was carried out next year. you could be running the camp next year, if not, offer them to your fellow peers who will be. i would then like to emphasize on the point of taking care of yourself. safety and wellness should always be the top priority regardless of the activity. you are soley responsible for your health before you can take care of your patrol, and also everyone other participants. you know yourself best, in future, should you know that you cant do firelightin for a long time, ask for help from your fellow patrol members, if not your ma'ams. i was there through out the session. you could have come to me. if you have done so, you probably wouldnt miss out on campfire and night game. :) besides these, i thank you for being the pillar of strength to your patrol - your juniors who were lost being there for the first time, your fellows peers when they were losing themselves to the tiredness, and the leaders when we needed support to get things goin'. keep everyone together, we are on our way to GOLD!

p.s/ the alarm wasnt from the seniors'. it was from the box of handphones that belong to you girls. that remind me of one that i forgot to scream at your for!!! roarrr! hahahaha.

yours in guidin,
huixin
