Campfire'06 Reflection: The Medieval Moonlight

The campfire....some good news and some bad news.

Good things first! The campfire was a success and due credit should go to everyone who played a part...Anderson Clover Guides, guiders and seniors who put in all their efforts to make the campfire a success.

I was in Gateway commitee. Loads of things to do... but very little time to do them. We had to work round the clock...coming up with the proposal, buying the cloth, cutting and sewing it, painting it,choosing the spars and making the structure stable....WHEW! There were a lot of hitches on the way and a great many problems. We came through it all and the final structure made me sigh in relief...Being it gateway this year certainly taught me A LOT! Keeping to the budget, rising to the occasion and taking on new, seemingly insurmountable challenges...to name a few.I also managed to ignite the leadership qualities in me through this campfire.

But of course there was some room for improvement. Our gateway, for example should have been tried beforehand to check its stability. It also seemed that the "high" factor during the campfire was not so high after alll...
Anyway there is nothing called perfect in this world....just close to perfect. And I hope we get closer next time.(LIKE REALLLLLLLLLLLY CLOSE).

Finally, thanksgiving is here!First and foremost my fellow Sec3s who have taken on their role as new leaders and survived! Then of course my juniors who have put up with me and co-operated well for the success of our gateway commitee. Next of course the wonderful angels called seniors who came down all the way and set things right for the campfire. And of course special mention goes to Huixin mdm who showered us with all her love (yes yes...sometimes in the form of scoldings) and made this campfire a success!!!

And now I leave this quote for all of you:
"Never be afraid to try, remember...
Amateurs built the ark.. Professionals built the Titanic." ------author unknown

This year's campfire was not as 'high' as last year's.The decrease in schools that came had caused the noise and enthusiasm level to dip; there were periods of silence quite often. The Jacob's Ladder at the gateway was rushed out on the day itself. The gateway does not look very safe and thus there were many people preferring to walk around it. The PA system did not seem to be in the best condition. Nevertheless, our guides kept the enthusiasm level by cheering and clapping loudly. Overall, the campfire was pretty good.

Aguides annual campfire 2006, medieval moonlight (:

it was fab la. i mean wht can i say, it is MY campfire. (: preparations were okay, touched up on this and tht. raah, jacobs ladder was like super unstable la. nvrthless, we still put it thr. if not all we had was a castle as gateway. i hopehopehope aguides standard of making gateway goes way waaaaaaaaay up! :D

had free breakfast and lunch XD it started drizzling la at ard 2. they had to go and cover up the fire for a couple of times cos the rain was going on and off. huixin asked the sec 2s to practice the dance. lol, we managed to synchronise our actions making the dance more awesome (: we kept on practicing until the rain stopped, and we had a run-through. emcees were gd la, just tht they were nervous la. the dance was good good (:

ard 3, me izzah nazira went of for council gm. had to choose our commitees and prepare for invest this sept. DECORATIONS! with pat. haha, mingchien xP connect, sprout, scc (: lol so they continued la, and we were all to have daily morning checks for attire and all tht. ): aft all tht, we went back for guides. huixin was giving the talk bfr our washups and all. really heartwarming la. AGUIDES IS MY PRIDE, MY PASSION <3

had another run-through. then we went to bathe. we chgd into our dance costume cos we were doing the opening item. lol i didnt sew the beads to the jeans so i asked nazira and anna to help me. haha, i swear im a failure with the thread and needle. and even clumsier -.- aft they sewed it and i put it on, my big fat giant bigfoot broke the thread and they had to resew it all over. urgh. im sucha failure ):

we did quite well! :D im kinda surprised, at least i didnt forget my dance steps. lol. and i was quite low ah this campfire cos izzah was the emcee. ): i miss you being beside me jumping and jumping ): nevertheless, i managed to get a few ppl enthu also la. haha, we danced cannibal king with the brownies and gosh they were so cute la! nyahaha, their hands were like cotton candy, able to melt in yr hands =DD then was sabo-ed to do simon says on stage. lol, was quite fun ah!

haha, the next highlight was the newspaper game. seriously funny! rachel and guozhang were super funny (: and the sec 4 guy and tht brownie. lol. can die laughing. it was a fun time. monfort won early bird, cedar won best supporting, st nix won best peformance. ended of with a vbomb, and it nvr failed to make me happy all over agaaaaain :)

haha, i love aguides. and i really learnt alot from this campfire. it was my first one in anderson (the previous one was at HIPS) and i felt the joy in it. proposals have to be made way way beforehand to avoid later disruptions, and everything has to be approved by mdm has like really early for us to get our preparations done. and our dance has to have enough dancers, and must make sure they are commited to learn the dance no matter wht.

I LOVE AGUIDES! :DDD

This year’s campfire, we only had about one month’s preparation time, and we could finish what we were supposed to do. I sometimes felt anxious that we could not finish painting and so on. I feel that this campfire was quite good. Just that some parts wasn’t that good. Like the gateway, it seems that it will fall apart any moment…and it’s simple. Maybe it’s because we do not have much time to do the gateway, and some of the sec. 1s do not know how to tie knots and lashings. Most people say that it was not as good as the previous year’s for the programme booklet, and I feel it is quite true. I hope that we can do better next year.

During the campfire, I feel that the people were not enjoying it because they seem very restless. And our own guides were enjoying ourselves instead of trying to be ‘high’. We haven’t got the songs familiar, so we sang it softly.

Well, I hope that it would be better next time…
